Drupal Media + YouTube + WYSIWYG

Share this

Thanks to some fine work by Jacob Singh, Dipen Chaudhary and myself over the past month, we've gotten Media working fairly well with WYSIWYG, with Media: YouTube and Media: Flickr to boot.

WYSIWYG Browser Thumbnails

Edit: Note that the module currently only works for Drupal 7. This set up requires the Media, Styles, and WYSIWYG modules (with the CKEditor plugin), and optionally Media: Flickr and/or Media: YouTube. Note that it's currently the dev releases of all those modules. /edit

Here it is with a YouTube video being resized in the WYSIWYG:

And the final node (note that it's inline).

And in a comment (this is a remote Flickr image, also available through the WYSIWYG and Media magic combo).

All of this is out of the box functionality! We're planning the alpha release any day now; just have to fix up a few things and get it stable enough. Join us in the #drupal-media channel of IRC if you want to help out next week!

Hi! I agree with Frando:

Hi! I agree with Frando: "Amazing work, everyone. I'm really impressed by the progress you made on this. The media modules will be an amazing boost for Drupal 7, and as things progress a beta looks totally doable until D7 releases. Kudos to you!" - very very well!

Wow - cannot wait for 1.0 release

Wow. Such incredible eye candy with incredible functionality. I cannot wait for Drupal 7 and more so for a more stable version of Media. I have a fairly bland plain site (Land Rover Geeks) and I want to use this so my users can upload photos, create photo galleries, and create classified ads with photo galleries. Currently, obviously that can be done without Media, but every uploader / graphic image picker combo, etc I have tried - it is just not pretty and/or intuitive to the end user. Media I look at it and it seems so user friendly, like it will be intuitive to them - and thus it will get used. So I guess this post is a long kudos to Media's developers for paying real attention to the user experience.

@Danny Concannon, you've

@Danny Concannon, you've never sat beside someone who knew nothing about the things you do, and watched them try to post something/anything on Drupal, have you?

I wish this was available for D6.

thank you so much for posting

thank you so much for posting about this. Amazing mess of modules to do this but awesome recipe! Soooo glad that someone's taking advantage of the new file api in 7 and even in quickly playing with it this is going to make upgrading to D7 a must for us. Sooo much better media integration and sets up for better resource management similar to Apture's simple way of getting web 2.0 content sources into 1 area. Love the way your doing this, keep up the great work.

I may have to look into writing a plugin to suck data in from other sources like Vimeo, Picasa, Scribd.

The Society for Venturism has chosen me as the recipient of its charity for this year, to hopefully offer me cryonic preservation when the time comes. And this month, Longecity, an excellent forum for the discussion of issues related to extending the lifespan of humans, has offered up a matching grant of up to a thousand dollars to help out! So help out! Please.
